Respiratory System

The function of the Respiratory System is to take in oxygen and expel carbon dioxide.

The organs of this system are the nose, pharynx, larynx trachea, bronchus, lung, and diaphragm.

Your lung breathes in and out and it's tissues are the inferior lobes, the middle lobe, the superior lobe, and the cardiac notch.

Your Digestive System interacts with the Respiratory System because you breathe and swallow with your mouth and pharynx.

The Nervous System connects with the Respiratory in your nose where you smell.

Asthma is what causes bronchioles to narrow.  A person with asthma has difficulties breathing and their attacks are usually triggered by dust or pollen.

SARS is caused by a virus.  Someone with SARS can have a fever or difficulty breathing.

Emphysema is the result of your alveoli being damaged.  People with this have a harder time getting the oxygen they need.
